THE WORKSHOP

We like to think of our workshop as an interesting place. We Have all the latest diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting on modern cars, a rolling road and an area dedicated to carburettor re-conditioning and light engineering. As well as dealing with difficult diagnostic and tuning problems we also carry out a lot of work on cars from many forms of motor sport and classic cars of all ages. We are all car enthusiasts at Southern Carburetters & Injection and this page is dedicated to giving an insight into what goes on in our workshop. It will be regularly updated with the latest news.
Suspension and Brakes
We are now supplying and fitting high performance suspension and brake conversions. This work fits in well with our rolling road business and means we can offer a complete service for those who want to improve the performance of their cars. We have already carried out tests and have been pleased with the results. The improvement in braking performance and feel achieved by fitting better discs, pads and brake hoses is fantastic and a very cost effective way of improving your car. Stiffer springs and shock absorbers will sharpen up the handling of your car and increase the "fun factor" of driving it. If you are thinking of using your car on track days then it is really essential to do something with the suspension and brakes, the stresses and loads increase at race track speeds and standard cars usually can't cope. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
Rolling Road

We have made long awaited changes to our rolling road. The old system of measuring load was replaced with a more up to date system. This means that the power figures produced are more accurate and that we can test cars with higher power outputs. It was put to the test straight away, Alfa Centuari asked us to calibrate the engine management system on their CAE Corse Evoluzione. This GT racing car is powered by a twin turbo Alfa Romeo V6 engine. They had just changed the engine from a 12 valve unit to a 24 valve with new turbos and wastegates. After re-mapping the car produced 450 horsepower at 0.8 bar of boost. Bigger springs in the wastegates will bring the boost up to 1 bar and close to 500 horsepower!

Good preparation is everything in motor sport, this is of course obvious if you are out to win, but it is equally important for the enthusiast who is just competing for fun. It is a lot more fun if you finish the event in a car that is working well and doesn’t break down. A session on the rolling road can highlight many problems that can then be rectified prior to the event.
We will bring you more news from the workshop soon. We are enthusiastic about recently becoming a Superchips dealer and are very pleased with the results we are getting using our recently acquired Autodiagnose diagnostic equipment. We are also busy evaluating some new product and equipment and hope to have some news on that soon.
